What to expect
Before our appointment
Be sure you’re well-rested and hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment. Apply lotion and sunscreen regularly. Avoid consuming alcohol or drugs for at least 24 hours. Have something to eat beforehand and feel free to bring snacks with you.
Wear comfy clothes in black or with pattern. I try to be careful but accidents do happen. Feel free to bring a change of clothes that allows better access to the area you’re getting tattooed.
If you are not feeling well – specifically, if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms – let me know as soon as possible to reschedule or cancel your appointment.
During the appointment
While masking is longer required, it is highly recommended. If you haven’t already decided on the tattoo size and placement, we can play around with both before we start tattooing. Folding screens, dental bibs, medical tape, and nipple covers are available for your comfort and privacy.
A session may last several hours. We may take a few breaks to stretch, have a snack, or use the bathroom. I would love for you to advocate for yourself and make your needs known. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or for more clarification.
After the appointment (Aftercare)
Try to keep the second skin bandage on for 3-4 days. You may shower and exercise with it. Soaking or excessive sweating will cause the bandage to lift, so take it easy the first few days.
Remove the second skin under running water. Peel it from the top, fold it on itself, pull it down and away from you. For any other type of bandage, you may remove it at the end of the day. Wash the tattoo with unscented soap and water, pat dry with a clean towel, and apply a thin layer of unscented lotion.
Wash, dry, and lightly lotion at least once a day for 2 weeks. No swimming, soaking, saunas, direct sunlight. It is natural for the tattoo to scab, peel, and itch — do not scratch it. After the 2-week period, wear sunscreen on your tattoo if you are out in the sun.
